Better Late Than Never (I hope!)

August 11, 2010

The passed week or so has been really busy. Family birthdays, finalizing wedding stuff (we have an awesome photographer now! Adam Sparkes), seeing friends from out of town (HI ANDY AND SUSANNA – THANKS FOR READING MY BLOG), and well, you get the picture.

So.. our Maker Faire pictures kinda got lost in the shuffle. We went to Maker Faire on Saturday, July 31st (ugh, now typing that out makes me realize how incredibly late on this I am). It was incredible! It was the first Maker Faire Detroit and was in the parking lot of Henry Ford (and a little bit inside, too).

Anyway, we went for the day with Jessica, Jess, Nat, and Dave F. Then later we went to a bbq at Jon and Diane’s house right by Henry Ford. It made for a long, but fun day.

Highlights:

The MakerBot 3D printer.

Robotic Lego Chess

And my personal faves – the guys from eepybird.com were there doing a Coke Zero and Mentos show!

August is my month for my The Bee in My Bonnet VQB. I’m already starting to get blocks back. I will post as soon as I have started putting them together – I’m really excited about how it will look!

Craft Revival Fair

April 17, 2010

Craft Revival

Today we went to the Craft Revival Fair at The Loving Touch in Ferndale, MI.

The Loving Touch

It actually sort of turned in a craft fair party. My cousin, Megan, was in town with her boyfriend, Tom. They came in from East Lansing for Megan’s 20th birthday. We’re going out with her family later today for dinner, but we always used to go to craft fairs together when she lived around here, so it was like old times.

Natalie, my craft fair buddy, was going, too, so we met up with her. And! My friend, Jessica, lives right down the street from The Loving Touch, so she and her boyfriend, Justin came.

After spending about an hour exploring the craft fair, we (Megan, Tom, Natalie, Jessica, Justin, Dave, and I) all went next door to the Woodward Ave Brewers (WAB) and had some delicious food.

Here’s the loot I got at the craft show:

I LOVE Courtney Fischer’s Jewelry! I got the leaf necklace for myself because I think I would like to be a necklace person…. and what better way to test the waters than with a beautiful leaf necklace? The cuff is going to be for my mom for Mother’s Day.

Anyway, now I have a few hours before Megan’s birthday dinner, so I think I’ll spend them working on pebbling this quilt:

Evil Joie

I basted it while Dave was out of town last week and started to quilt it, but got distracted (probably by Joie, who looks positively evil in that picture – even though she is the sweetest cat ever) and didn’t finish it.

Oh and one last thing! Dave and I picked up juice from Chile last night! We got a Cabernet Sauvignon and a Camernere from a guy, Joe, who imports the juice directly from Chile. So the Chilean wine is on us… in 6-9 months!

Blue House

March 20, 2010

Happy National Quilting Day!

Blue House

Today Dave, Nat, and I went to Blue House in Ann Arbor. They were having a craft fair and even though we weren’t sure what to expect, we decided it would be fun to check out. I’m really glad we did!

Blue House is literally… a blue house. Apparently they offer craft classes and today was their first craft show. Although the space was small, they used it really well to fit a bunch of great vendors who were selling everything from tamari balls to sterling silver jewelry.

I got some beautiful fabric cards from Mains de Fees, some cute/nerdy buttons and magnets from Barrel of Monkeys, and the most beautiful copper earrings from Courtney Fischer Jewelry.

Sadly, I haven’t actually quilted anything for National Quilting Day. There is still plenty of daylight left to fix that though!
