August Foodie Penpal

August 31, 2012

This month was the first time I participated in Foodie Penpals. I sent a package to a woman in California and I got the most amazing package from Maggie of Notes from Maggie’s Farm (her blog is awesome!).

Seriously, check out my mad loot:

That’s right, a bean spice blend, spicy corn bread mix, spicy biscuit mix, Stubb’s BBQ sauce, and dry rub from the Salt Lick. I don’t know which one to be the most excited about!

I haven’t tried any yet, because I’m logging many hours over overtime at work and that is drastically cutting into my everything-else-time…. but I’m really looking forward to…. all of them!

Thank you so much, Maggie! This was my first month of August Foodie Penpals and it was totally worth it. I can’t wait for next month 🙂

Finishing some projects and No. 21

May 7, 2012

I turned in my last bit of coursework for my degree a couple weeks ago. It still feels a little unreal. Part of that feeling is actually having some free time. Free time in which I have done the following:

Checked off #21 from my list of 30 by 30 – Finish a quilt project. This is the quilt before I finished it – I thought this picture was more interesting than the finished product because it has Jelly and her scary, evil eyes 🙂

I also made a tote bag:

Made some butter for fun:

And finished this quilt top:

That’s it for now. I’m hoping to get some more projects done before I run out of steam 🙂

Weekend Canning

March 18, 2012

From left to right: Three Citrus Marmalade, Pickled Red Onions, and Cherry, Pineapple, Orange Marmalade.

I spent a little time last weekend and a little time this weekend working on canning… and I’m officially smitten with canning. There is nothing as satisfying as that little ping of the seal and the way the food looks so bright and pretty through the glass.

And now for the official checking off the 30 by 30 list:
7. Make jam or jelly – check! I’m going with marmalade totally counts.
8. Can jam or jelly – check!

Two in one weekend! Woohoo! Although, it’s definitely a case of doing the easy ones first… I haven’t even thought seriously of organizing the craft room….
